Three Songs With The Word “Birthday” In Them To Celebrate My Birthday

Stevie Wonder is known for his rendition of “Happy Birthday”

I apologize for my two day hiatus from blogging, but I’m back. Today is my 26th birthday, so I decided to celebrate by penning a post with three uncanny birthday celebratory songs.  Absent are the standard “Happy Birthday” and even Stevie Wonder’s 1980 “Happy Birthday” from his acclaimed Hotter Than July.  No offense, but compared to the three cuts I’m going to discuss, “Happy Birthday” by Wonder is safe, LOL. Add to that that it is safe for work; these other three, not so much. Now, is it any coincidence that it is urban artists turning “happy birthday” into double entendres, the salacious, and burial at the booty club and the Louis sto’? #SMH

Jeremih’s 2009 self-titled debuted featured #1 single “Birthday Sex”

“Birthday Sex,” Jeremih, Jeremih (2009)

Jeremih’s “Birthday Sex” became an anthem for “the dirty” on your birthday. Salacious, overt, and gimmicky, there’s really not much to say. Jeremih wanted to get it in -on his birthday. #SMH

Rihanna’s 2011 effort Talk That Talk featured a shortened version of “Birthday Cake” prior to the full Chris Brown featured remix

Men everywhere now can never view birthday cake in the same regard (maybe that’s a good thing). Rihanna turns the dessert into the erotic, made all the more sensual by the repetition of the word “cake,” as if it represents…well never mind. Add the line “I wanna f*ck you right now” and we know that Rihanna is definitely not talking about white fluffy birthday cake with icing…at least in the cleanly sense. #SMH

“Birthday Song” is a single from 2Chainz’s #1 album Based on a T.R.U. Story

“Birthday Song,” 2Chainz, Based on a T.R.U. Story

Ultimately one of the catchiest though most ridiculous songs of 2012, “Birthday Song” certainly has different aspirations than I desire on my birthday. 2Chainz only wants a “big booty girl” for his birthday, though later he amends this to having “two.” I’m sure you can fill in the blanks.  Even more a sacrilege to a ‘happy’ birthday, 2Chainz keeps talking about dying and being buried in the Gucci store, Louis store, Truey store (True Religion Jeans), and in the booty club. I suppose the cemetery, mausoleum, or cremation lack the “swag” of high end fashion. #SMH

Honorable mention:

50 Cent, “In Da Club”

Nope this song doesn’t have birthday in the title, but me and my buds were all about this song at the end of high school. “Go shawty, it’s yo birthday/we gon’ party like its yo birthday/we gon’ sip Bacardi like its yo birthday/and we don’t give a f*ck if it’s yo birthday…”

Happy birthday to me. Help me celebrate by playing one of the above mentioned songs. LOL!
