“No Church In The Wild,” Music Video Review/Analysis

Well first off, “No Church in the Wild” was always some way to start off one of 2011’s most anticipated rap album Watch The Throne. The video is directed by Romain Gavras and is nothing short of, ‘wild.’ Depicting all out chaos, the rebellion is an accurate representation of the title, which includes police wrestling rebels, cars being turned over, statues, lasers, fire, and even an mighty elephant towards the conclusion. The tone is dark throughout, much like the low-key, though enigmatic beat that characterizes the audio. There was/is something special about the initial cut from Watch The Throne that contrasts the brash, bragging nature of “N***as in Paris” and the soulful, Redding sampling “Otis.” Certainly the video further mystifies one of my favorite cuts from Watch The Throne.
